1 million jobs would be cut in 2009
As the recession has worsened, companies have ratcheted up drastic cost-cutting measures and layoffs. And 2009 doesn't look much better, according to two recent reports.
In a report released Monday, executive outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas Inc. predicted that more than 1 million jobs would be cut in 2009.

10-year Bund yield sinks to 50-year low
That has some investors bracing for the US, UK and German bond markets possibly emulating Japan’s experience over the past 15 years, where the yield on 10-year government paper is at 1.36 per cent. Suvrat Prakash, interest rate strategist at BNP Paribas, said: “More investors are looking at a Japan-style scenario and how much yields dropped there.” He said investors were buying government debt and also increasing their exposure via interest rate swaps.
